It should take about 4 to 6 weeks. A good test to know if it's taken well is to try to lift a corner at each end of your yard. If the turf is gripping and not lifting, then the roots have taken well.
You should water it twice a day when it has first been laid, and regularly once it has settled. Like most plants, it may need more water in the hotter months and less in the cooler months.
When it has properly settled, usually after 4-6 weeks. If you can lift a corner of the turf and the roots are firmly gripping the soil, then you can give it a light mow.
